Ayala Health participated in a forum organized by the Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP) last May 4, 2016 at the Asian Institute of Management. Dubbed as “Health for Juan and Juana: Moving Forward with the Philippine Healthcare Agenda,” the event brought together healthcare experts from the private sector, the academe and the government, including Hon. Janette P. Loreto-Garin, Secretary of the Department of Health, as well as former health secretaries, Hon. Enrique T. Ona, and Hon. Francisco T. Duque, III.
Speaking in a panel discussion on the Philippine Health Agenda for 2016-2022, Rene T. Figueroa Jr., COO of Ayala Health, highlighted the role of the private sector in increasing accessibility and harnessing technology. “Primary care is where the gatekeeper role starts… one of the key things we believe in is this whole network of primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care should be strengthened by technology,” Figueroa said.
Ayala Health has a chain of community-based primary care clinics, called FamilyDOC. It is also in the affordable medicines space, through Generika, a retail pharmacy chain with over 580 stores nationwide.
Other topics discussed in the forum include the challenges in universal healthcare, and the role of PhilHealth in healthcare financing. Panel discussions focused on the potential of multi-sectoral collaboration to improve healthcare outcomes.
The event was sponsored by the Zuellig Family Foundation, Asian institute of Management, Dr. Stephen Zuellig Center for Asian Business Transformation, Havas Life and, Medicines Transparency Alliance Philippines.
